All Grown Up (part 2)

A few things I forgot to mention when I posted about our little baby growing up to be a little girl... Alice went for her 1 year check-up and vaccinations at the doctor's on Thursday. Our little crevette now weighs 20.86 pounds (60 percentile for weight) and is in the 75 percentile for height. She's stretching out! She had 2 shots and will be back for more in a month. But here's the cool stuff. She has started to do a few new "problem solving" activities. Like trying to put objects inside boxes, holes, or bags. Like this: Also, Alice has been trying to put the lids back on different containers (travel mug, empty yogurt container...) And here's a cute one for today: Alice carried around two little disks from the beaded snake that she got for her birthday, for about an hour! Clenched in her fist like this: Bless her heart. She is so wonderful! (We were wondering if she would become attached to a teddy bear or doll... we were not expecting this!) And the amazing

Just for you, daddy.

All Grown Up

Alice is no longer the little kid on the block! Today was the first day for a 4-month old baby at the daycare. So now our one year-old is ready to join the big kids. Did we go too far? Well, at least it was fun! Something bad happened today, daddy... We started harvesting the apple tree a little early!

M.A.C.'s Latest Lipcolour...

Is blueberries'n'cream! I'm not just into makeup, now I'm raiding mom's closet for something good to wear. (but Alice, your wardrobe is better that mine!)

Neighbourhood Watch

Quick Guy. Come home before our neighbors evict our lazy butts.

Now I can't wait until my second birthday!

Birthday parties are so much fun!! Alice turned one year old on the 15th, and despite having her first honest-to-goodness runny nose (how is such a little body able to produce so much snot?) she had a lovely day on Saturday, and a fantastic party on Sunday. Thank-you so much to all of Alice's friends who came to the party, and for the generous gifts. See you again next year? My first present on the actual day - from our Sudbury friends, Lynn and Paul. (dinosaur puppet not shown) My Great Auntie Jean came all the way from England (via Vancouver!) to read me a birthday story. Thanks for my new t-shirt Gran (it says something about Grandma and Grandpa being the best...) I've got my party dress on. Let the guests in! The littlest Lavergne gets in some baby Einstein time. Olivier looks like he's going to chair a meeting, but he's really just getting into his lunch Cake time! (Don't worry, we saved you a piece Daddy) Un gros, gros poisson (Lucy's "first&quo

Hang on a minute...

... I'm on the phone!

Little Pink Riding-in-the-Hood

I wonder if daddy will remember that he picked out this adorable poncho at last year's neighborhood yard sale?

Scootin'

A few weeks ago we posted a photo of Alice's nifty new way of getting around, well here she is again, but this time in a movie! Her technique is much improved and she can get around quickly when she wants to (when she sees something she thinks she can get to before mummy baby-proofs it)

Pavarotti? It that you?

Silvana said that Alice sang all day today at daycare, and that she must have had some influence from the spirit of the recently departed, Luciano Pavarotti. I must admit that she has a mighty fine voice (already better than her mother) You may notice that there are not as many photos recently. You are correct in your observation, and there are several logical explanations for the shortage: 1) Alice is moving a lot faster now. She is no longer a "still life with squeaky toy". She is more of an impressionistic blur. She also tends to grab for the camera if we lean in for a close-up. Hey, at this point in time, everything seems like candy! 2) Mummy is alone with Alice at the moment, and in between working, "walking" the little one around, housework and feeding/cleaning both of us, there is little time left over for creative photojournalism. 3) The batteries in the camera are nearly dead. I haven't had time to change them yet. So now you have my excuses, but I ca

Manitoba Celebration

Guy's family recently celebrated the 60th wedding anniversary for his grandparents (Armand and Claire) in Saint Pierre Jolys Manitoba. Many people came down to celebrate this joyous event with them; including most of their 17 great grand children . Unfortunately Guy and Sol and their families weren't able to make it due to work but we sure wished we could have made it after seeing these photos (from Janette). Armand and Claire holding 2 of their newest great grandchildren (twins no less). p.s. We dont usually keep our sofas outdoors in Manitoba. The hall where the main celebration took place. Cold cuts are a must. The future for this family has alot of estrogen. ALOT. My dad sadling up the horses to take a ride with one of Guy's cousins. The view from the backyard. My dad's new weathervane on the ancestral barn that Alice's great great great grandfather built. Thats alot of greats.

Communication

For those of you who were not aware, we're planning on enrolling Alice in the winter semester at Concordia University. Yes, she is that gifted. A mum is allowed to exagerate isn't she? The truth is that it is so wonderful and mesmerizing to watch this little person begin to communicate her needs and feelings by using methods other than crying and smiling. Alice is using a combination of speaking and signing to get her message across. Some of her oral skills are: ba (depending on the intonation and situation, may represent bath, ball or the sound that a sheep makes!), mah - mah (which means either mummy, daddy, or yes I'm hungry!), da - da , a high pitched squeal means meow (for cat) For signs she uses a nose wrinkle for flowers, a thigh slap for dog, a pointed finger at the mouth for bird, and clapping hands for more food. Here she is signing for more pancakes:

Winter has arrived (in the sub-arctic)

We woke up this morning with a lovely white cover on the ground. Quite depressing actually, and very cold. Wake up call. Rugged landscape of the planet formerly known as Pluto??

No, we have not forgotten the blog...

And yes, Alice is still the most beautiful baby there ever was... But we've been very, very busy with Guy being home (fun) and Lucy being back at work (stress) so something had to give, and that thing was the blog. Now we are back, and since Guy has returned to Raglan, you can expect to see updates much more often. Daddy expects frequent reports about his daughter. So what have you missed? Well plenty! Mostly, we have had a ton of fun visiting with friends and family, enjoying strolls to the park and just being together as TEAM! Tonight however, Lucy is enjoying her very own pity-party after a tough day. Imagine, if you will, bidding your best friend adieu for 2-3 weeks, navigating a vigilante parking lot at the metro, suffering ongoing uncertainty at work, and having your nipple "accidentally" bitten by a teething one year-old. Wanna come to my party? But nevermind all the drama Here are some pics of happier times. Shopping for a tent-trailer... this ain't the one
