Tummy time...

... is better when you have a friend to cheer you on!

What's up with us?

Perhaps you've noticed a lack of posts for the past week or so. We can explain... Things have been quite busy around here since everyone at Alice's daycare caught gastro last week (except her, lucky us) so she stayed home to keep Lucy and Estelle busy. Isn't it a shame that when we are having the most fun, just living our everyday lives, is when we don't bother to take any photos. At least our hard drive can attest to the fact that we do, generally, take a lot of photos of the girls. (Oh, and in case you're wondering, the weekend was topped off with a lovely case of food poisoning for Lucy) Is she a doctor, or is she a fairy? You can just barely make out the crown on Lucy's head...

Winter Carnival

We keep on trying...

To catch some picture perfect moments of our two girls together (it ain't easy...) Here's one from Valentine's Day:

The play mats are back!

Now that Estelle is a bit older, we brought out the colorful spongy mats for her to roll around on (and for those of you who are into milestones, no, she is not rolling yet) Of course Alice loves the mats now too, probably because it makes the place seem like a more kid-centric daycare. Thanks for loading me up with toys Alice!

Ice fishing

Ice fishing is a "sport" that is common in the coldest parts of Canada. It involves cutting holes in lake ice and putting live bait on the lake bed and waiting for the rod to tip. Also there is a lot of beer drinking involved. We rented a shack on the St-Lawrence Seaway amongst a small city on the ice with street names and everything. The weather was quite warm so we were able to spend most of the time outside. The shack in the backround typically has holes cut in the bottom so that one can fish from inside. This is one of the fish that we caught. We used a little camera trickery to make it look bigger. See next photo for actual size. By having a third party hold the fish close to the camera and having the hand of the supposed fish holder off screen you can do some real magic... You can turn this... Into this. Check the boy's hair for proof of timing. That is NOT how the kids wear their hair these days. A litle poker when the fish are resting. Did I mention that ther...

Napalooza 2009!

Last week was a first for Estelle - a 90 minute nap.. in her own crib! Of course this is no big deal for so many babies, but our itty bitty girls seem to love sleeping in the carseat, our arms, the swing, etc. but cetainly not an actual bed. So while most days we try to encourage some bed napping, this long snooze came as a lovely surprise for mum, who, after checking about seven times to see that Estelle was actually okay, was able to cook and clean and fold laundry! All of the things I'm being paid to do right now. A long nap makes for one happy baby. (In case you're wondering, the following day's nap lasted about 10 minutes! It's a work in progress...) Footnote: Alice has been sleeping well in her crib since about this age, 3 months.

Did you hear the one about...

... the fairy, the cowgirl and the lion?

Sushi!

This weekend we went out for sushi... Why then, does it appear that we are eating our sushi out of take-out trays at home? Well, let's just say that Estelle was more in the mood for a quiet evening at home than an adult meal out in a quaint little sushi resto. And she let us know while we were eating our appetizers. So, we had the rest of our meal packaged up and headed for home. Alice enjoying her tofu-wrapped avocado sushi. When the sushi was all gone, it was bread and butter for the little one!
